Mary Angell, your mother's older sister, commonly called
Mamie. After your grandmother Angell died, when Mamie was
about twenty and your mother only seven, she became the
"mother" of the family and made them "stand around."
She followed her brother Ed to Philadelphia, where she
studied nursing under Dr. Mitchell.
She married Edward M. Olmstead, who had grown up on a farm
near Waverly, graduated from Cornell where he was a member of
the crew, studied medicine at the College of Physicians and
Surgeons in New York, but couldn't bring himself to practice
for fear he might make a wrong diagnosis, so established a
drug store in Binghamton where they lived the rest of their
lives.
They had one child, a daughter, Marion.
